Why We Only Travel to Goa in October
Empty beaches, lush green interiors, half the price. The case for skipping the winter rush — and the quiet corners of the South that reward you for it.

Late December in North Goa is a war zone of traffic and trance parties. October in South Goa is a secret. The post-monsoon jungle is blindingly green. The beach shacks are just starting to open, and the local bakers have time to actually sit and talk with you.
Our short list: Agonda (always), the backwaters of Sal, and the completely empty stretches near Galgibaga. Skip the crowded northern beaches unless you have a very specific craving for chaos.
The trick to the shoulder season is committing to the slow pace. Don't try to recreate a wild winter party. Embrace the soft afternoon rain showers, the slow mornings, and the sunset swims when the Arabian Sea is entirely yours.
